Preview Looking to get off to a flying start on Match Day 1, Lyon will be in search of a win over Brest on home soil this Saturday. Last Saturday, they picked up a defeat against FC Porto, 5-3 in a pre-season friendly match. Before that fixture, they lost to Sporting CP, 3-2 but picked up victories against FBBP 01, 5-1, Wolfsburg, 4-1, and Villefranche, 2-0. They also picked up a 2-2 draw against Villarreal in another club friendly. Failing to qualify for Europe's most prestigious tournament, the UEFA Champions League, Rudi Garcia threw in the towel despite guiding Lyon to a 4th place finish last season. His successor, Peter Bosz is known for his possession-based attacking style of play which relies on aggressive pressing. His colorful credentials list coaching spells at Maccabi Tel Aviv (2016), AFC Ajax (2016-2017), and Dortmund (2017) among several others. Before joining Lyon, he managed Bayer Leverkusen between 2018 and 2021 but was fired in March after Bayer Leverkusen slipped further down the Bundesliga table to 6th place. His goal for the season would be to restore Lyon as a contender for the Ligue 1 title. Unfortunately, he would be saddled with that herculean task without Memphis Depay who was Lyon’s top scorer last season with 20 goals. However, Lyon have made several additions in key positions in the transfer window. An attacking 4—3—3 formation with Ekambi, Tino Kadewere, and Islam Slimani is expected on Saturday. The trio scored a combined total of 27 goals for the Kids in the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season.

Preview Meanwhile, Stade Brestois 29 will be in search of a point this Saturday. They finished in 17th place at the end of the 2020/21 season, - a point above the bottom three. This season they would be looking to avoid the relegation scrap entirely. Despite making several additions in the hope of strengthening their squad, the Pirates picked up only one victory in their pre-season tour – against Plabennec Stade, 4-2. They suffered defeats in the hands of Lorient, 3-2, Stade Briochin, 2-1, Nantes, 3-1, and Mallorca, 2-1 but picked up a 2-2 draw against Guingamp. - Obviously not an impressive pre-season tour for Michel Der Zakarian’s side, but one good enough to uncover the team's weaknesses. On Saturday, a 4—4—2 formation with Steve Mounie and Irvin Cardona leading the attack is expected. Michel Der Zakarian will have a fully fit squad available except for Paul Lasne and Sebastien Cibois. Both players remain doubtful for this fixture.
