Preview VfL Wolfsburg Champions League, Nov 2, 2021

Preview After seeing the back of Mark van Bommel - slightly over a week ago - the German side will attempt to get their UEFA Champions League campaign back on track with a win over RB Salzburg on Matchday 4. Over the weekend, Wolfsburg picked up a 2-0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen at BayArena, with Lukas Nmecha (48’) and Maximilian Arnold (51’) hitting the back of the net. On UCL Matchday 3, Wolfsburg lost to Salzburg, 3-1 at the Red Bull Arena, Salzburg. Shocking defending from the Germans saw Karim Adeyemi (3’) racing away for the goal as several green shirts beat a hasty retreat during the length of a well-executed counter-attack. Minutes later, a sleepy Wolfsburg watched as Salzburg’s Okafor crashed his effort into the cross-bar. However, Lukas Nmecha (15’) pulled one back for the visitors to see Wolfsburg on level terms. Five minutes after the hour, Salzburg’s Okafor (65’ & 77’) found the goal which had eluded him earlier, before hitting the brace twelve minutes later. Winless, halfway through the group stage, Wolfsburg have only 2 points from 0W, 2D & 1L. Having picked up his first win on his first day on the job, new boss Florian Kohfeldt will be making his UCL debut with the club on Tuesday, - aiming for a flying start. Wolfsburg have the form: WLLLW, in five games across all competitions. On Tuesday, a 4—3—3 formation with Nmecha at the center of the attack is anticipated. Wout Weghorst (coronavirus) and Niklas Klinger remain in doubt while Xaver Schlager (knee injury) is ruled out. William and Białek have been left out of the UCL squad.

Preview RB Salzburg are unbeaten in five games across all competitions: DWWWD. The Austrian club returns to continental football action after a 2-2 draw with SV Ried in the Austrian Bundesliga on Saturday. Adamu (83’) and Okafor (85’) were on target for the club in the draw. This Tuesday, manager Matthias Jaissle will be on the hunt for a win, knowing three points will see his side berth safely in the last-16 with two games to spare. Salzburg sits at the very top of Group G with 7 points after 2W, 1D & 0L. Jaissle's 4—3—1—2 formation will likely have Karim Adeyemi playing alongside Noah Okafor in attack once again on Tuesday. Adeyemi, who is the Austrian Bundesliga's top scorer with a haul of 10 goals in 12 appearances, has three goals in as many appearances in the UEFA Champions League proper. The 19-year-old German of Nigerian descent aims to add to the tally on Tuesday.
