With the January transfer window just weeks away, on today’s Scout Report we’re taking a look at three signings Xavi could make to elevate Barcelona.
Following a two-year period in which Barcelona fell away from Europe’s elite, faced their biggest financial crisis in a generation, and lost their greatest ever player for free, the appointment of Xavi is seen by many as the first step on a long road to recovery at the Camp Nou. And to say he has a tough job on his hands is an understatement. Barça are in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time since 2003, sitting six points off fourth-placed Atletico Madrid at the time of writing, have crashed out of the UCL group stage for the first time in over 20 years, and are yet to fully convince since the former Blaugrana captain took his place in the dugout.
But despite the club still working on a tight budget, with president Joan Laporta recently suggesting they can’t make any January signings without selling first, investment in the squad is needed if Xavi is going to make a success of the side he once captained. Let’s take a look at three players who could help him realise his ambitions.
