Atlanta United today announced it has signed forward Jamal Thiaré as a free agent through the 2024 season. The Senegalese striker, last with French Ligue 1 side Le Havre, will occupy an international roster slot pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.
The 30-year-old forward was born in Kaolack, Senegal and later moved to Belgium where he began his professional career at Sporting Charleroi. Thiaré had an assist in his Jupiler Pro League debut as Charleroi defeated OH Leuven 3-0. He scored his first professional goal in the final match of the season against KV Mechelen. The following season, the forward made 13 appearances across all competitions before being loaned to French side U.S. Avranches for the 2014-15 campaign.
Atlanta United joined Major League Soccer in 2017 and won the 2018 MLS Cup in just its second season, the earliest an expansion team has won the title since 1998. The club has set multiple league records including season tickets sales (36,000-plus), single-season average (53,002) and total home attendance (901,033). Owned by Arthur M. Blank, Atlanta United plays its home matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. For more information about Atlanta United, including how to purchase season tickets, visit: www.atlutd.com.
