Stoke City were beaten 3-1 by Blackburn Rovers on their visit to Ewood Park on Saturday.
Tyrhys Dolan netted either side of a Sammie Szmodics header to give the home side a three-goal lead inside 37 minutes.
Ex-Rovers striker Niall Ennis reduced the deficit before the break on his full City debut before Daniel Johnson saw a penalty saved moments after half-time.
The Potters return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Queens Park Rangers in the first of back-to-back fixtures at the bet365 Stadium.
