Stoke City slipped to a stoppage time defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the first of back-to-back home fixtures.
Owls substitute Anthony Musuba struck in the dying embers to secure a 1-0 win for the visitors and maximum points.
The Potters were left to rue not taking one of several second half chances including a Ryan Mmaee penalty.
City move on to the second of successive home matches on Tuesday night when they host Swansea City.
