In partnership with the National Lottery, Wigan Athletic Community Trust held a Borough Vision party for members of their Extra Time Hubs to celebrate Eurovision being held in Liverpool.
The Extra Time project aims to tackle loneliness and prevent social isolation in over 55s by holding weekly sessions in both Wigan and Leigh and providing a place where like-minded people can come together and take part in a range of activities from quizzes and dominoes to curling, volley ball and beyond.
Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Borough Vision brought 70 participants from across both sessions together to celebrate, listen to music, enjoy performances from musical charity Music in Mind, and even take part in a talent show.
Extra Time Activator, Christine Blundell, who planned and hosted the event, said, “You can see the impact instantly with just how much fun they're actually having.
“Extra Time is about bringing like-minded people together to reduce isolation and improve overall well-being and when we do these types of events, it's allowed us to bring everyone from the two sessions together.
“A lot of these people didn't know each other before they started coming to Extra Time, so when we can add an additional party into it, it allows them just to get to know each other a little bit better and have so much more fun.”
