Wigan Athletic Community Trust has named St Marie's Catholic Primary School this week's School of the Week!
Community Trust staff deliver regular sessions at the school, including PE support and a variety of lunch time and after school clubs, with the aim of helping pupils develop their confidence and sports knowledge, whilst living a healthier lifestyle.
The Trust also make sure to deliver fully inclusive sessions at the school for SEN children, including an intervention to support children who might need to have their PE lessons in smaller groups.
During a visit to the School, St Marie's PE Coordinator, Lisa Shaw, said:
“It's important because it's inclusive for all the children. Wigan Athletic make sure all the children are involved in all the lessons.
“The children are much more confident, they're wanting to get involved and they're wanting to be part of teams and represent the school.
“We've even noticed that once they've done a club here with Wigan Athletic, they then want to go on further and take it up outside of school as well.
“We recently had an Ofsted inspection and Wigan Athletic supported our PE curriculum with that and supported us through the inspection as well and we're happy to say that we got ‘Outstanding'.”
