🎥⚽ Match Highlights: Catch all the action from last week's league draw at home to Sporting Duet! 🌟🥅
See all the highlights from our 15th December league tie. Croydon Athletic Women welcomed Sporting Duet and hoped to maintain our unbeaten record in the league. We started strong, flashing a shot over the bar almost directly from kick-off. It was a fast-paced first half with both sides creating chances but solid defending at both ends of the pitch kept the game goalless - our best chance of the half was prevented by the Sporting goalkeeper's brave intervention as she rushed out to charge down our attempt. Sporting Duet had a golden chance to take the lead when they were awarded a freekick on the edge of the box, but a stunning save kept out the effort which looked destined to find the back of the net. The breakthrough came shortly after when the visitors picked up the ball in our half and played a lovely ball through the defence which was smartly finished at the near post by Qullennec-Reid. Our heads did not drop and we kept pushing for an equaliser in the second half, coming close with a lovely cut back just after the break that no one could get on the end of. Kabadaki scored a tremendous equaliser - she was found on the left flank by D'Aranjo and powered past a defender before cutting inside and powering a shot into the near bottom corner. Sporting maintained a threat but we grew more confident, threatening a winner from a number of corners that whistled past the post or were somehow kept out by the defence, and hitting the upright from range just before the full time whistle. Ultimately, we could not find a winner but a very solid performance on the day maintained our unbeaten league season.
Next up we welcome South London Reserves to the Mayfield Stadium in the Capital Women's Cup on the 19th January!
