In our latest XI, we are looking at the team of players who missed out on Gareth Southgate’s final England squad.
We have included the 7 players dropped from the final 33-man preliminary squad, including the defensive pairing of Ben Godfrey and Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale in goal, and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood also features, after ruling himself out with injury.
But it’s his Red Devil’s teammate Aaron Wan-Bissaka who might feel most aggrieved for not even being considered, along with AC Milan starlet Fikayo Tomori. Leicester City’s James Maddison can also count himself unlucky to miss out, and in particular James Ward-Prowse, whose set piece ability could have been an invaluable asset during the tournament.
Finally, we look at the fall of Tottenham defender Eric Dier, and the future of Jesse Lingard, who has worked wonders to even be in Three Lions contention at all..
