Jordan Pickford saved an Anthony Gordon penalty while Everton had a goal ruled out and a huge penalty appeal of their own waved away during an eventful 0-0 draw with Newcastle at Goodison.
The Blues thought they had taken the lead after 18 minutes when Abdoulaye Doucouré headed in James Garner's inch-perfect cross, only for a VAR to intervene and chalk it off.
The visitors were then awarded a penalty but Pickford came out victorious against former Everton forward Gordon, who fluffed his lines in front of the Gwladys Street end.
The major talking point of the second period came when Dan Burn appeared to bring down Dominic Calvert-Lewin, denying the Toffees' No.9 a tap-in in the process, but referee Craig Pawson chose not to point to the spot and the spoils were shared.
