City were back in London for a tricky contest with West Ham.
The home side were pressing high in the opening stages and could have gone ahead before City started to take control and on 10 minutes, Bernardo fed Erling Haaland who took the ball in his stride before placing a measured shot into the bottom corner of the net.
The Hammers levelled when Jarrod Bowen's cross struck Ruben Dias and past Ederson on 19 minutes.
But Haaland struck again on the half-hour mark with a thunderous shot after Rico Lewis‘ short pass found him on the right of the box.
It was nip and tuck thereafter, with both sides striking the woodwork before Haaland saved a nervy end by completing yet another hat-trick on 83 minutes.
