This summer, newly-promoted Nottingham Forest have had a higher net spend than every La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1 team combined, and the Premier League as a whole has outspent its nearest competitors, La Liga, by a ratio of 8:1.
Not only can clubs outside of the Premier League no longer compete with the division's spending power, many leagues are now dependent upon Premier League teams signing their best players for huge transfer fees just to remain competitive.
So in light of the recent signings of Casemiro by Manchester United and Alexander Isak by Newcastle United, HITC Sevens takes a look at the finances of the Premier League compared with Europe's other top leagues, the growing disparity between them, and asks the question as to whether the top flight of English football has finally broken the transfer market.
