The Minstermen suffered late heartbreak as a last-minute Kevin Dawson penalty meant City were held to a 1-1 draw against ten-man Gloucester City.
The visitors were reduced to ten-men late in the first-half as Tom Harrison was shown a straight red card just before half time.
After missing the last seven games through injury, Michael Woods came off the bench to hand York the lead with ten minutes to go, but the visitors were awarded a 90th minute penalty by the referee, which allowed Dawson to step up from twelve yards to send Pete Jameson the wrong way.
