After a poor opening round at Rugby World Cup 2023, Los Pumas won their remaining games to ensure they qualified for the knockout stages in France. They met an in form Wales team who had recorded a record win over Eddie Jones' Australia and had beaten the the surprise packages, Fiji.
The two sides met at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille in the opening the Rugby World Cup quarter-final. After Wales started strong, Argentina came back from 10-0 down to steal the match as Nicolas Sanchez scored the decisive try with a few minutes to go and secure a semi-final against New Zealand at the Stade de France in Paris a week later.
