ESPN's Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens (The Gab and Juls show) are joined by Alex Kirkland to discuss Atletico Madrid's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League. Firstly, Laurens celebrates the fantastic goal by fellow Frenchman Olivier Giroud and Marcotti is quick to also praise VAR for checking who touched the ball last, which ultimately allowed the goal to stand. Kirkland explains how Diego Simeone's plan would have been to finish the game without conceding an away goal, and also noted Madrid's home game was another disadvantage, as they were unable to play at the Wanda due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, Laurens was not happy with Simeone's tactics and is sure players such as Luis Suarez and Joao Felix would be hugely frustrated playing in such a negative way. Laurens predicts Chelsea will progress in the second leg when Atletico visit Stamford Bridge.
