In a battle of the cities, it was Oxford City who managed to defeat a tough Clarets team from Chelmsford and helped cement their playoff push in the National League South.
The hoops, looking for a response from the defeat at league champions Ebbsfleet United on Friday, started the game slowly after Arjanit Krasniqi had given the visitors the lead from the penalty spot after a foul by Lewis Miccio. Later on in the half, Josh Ashby cooly converted his own penalty after teammate Lewis Miccio was brought down. Minutes later, a moment of brilliants from Zac McEachran as he dribbled his way through the clarets team before letting a shot fly past keeper Eddie Beach.
City kept piling on the pressure with numerous chances and with 20 minutes to go in the game. Striker Olly Sanderson, on loan from Fulham, cooly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the clarets net as a neat ball from Ashby had set the striker through on goal.
The hoops face the long trip to Dover on Saturday looking to round off the season in style with the remaining 3 fixtures of the regular season they have left to play.
