A battle of the two Major League Soccer expansion sides in the opening round of the playoffs turned out to be one-way traffic, with Nashville SC running Inter Miami off the pitch and out of Tennessee with an emphatic 3-0 win. Playing without Gonzalo Higuain, his brother Federico and defender Leandro Gonzalez Pirez due to COVID-19, Miami — David Beckham's long-awaited MLS expansion team — was on the back foot from the start. Randall Leal put Nashville ahead with a screaming shot from nearly 30 yards, Hany Mukhtar quickly doubled the lead with Nashville's first-ever successful penalty kick. MLS veteran Dax McCarty put the game away in the second half when he dribbled to the edge of the box from midfield and curled in a brilliant goal to set up a meeting between Nashville and Eastern Conference powerhouse Toronto FC in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
