Everton Football Club has revealed its new hummel home kit for 2021/22, with fans able to pre-order the dazzle-camouflage inspired strip ahead of it being on sale from 15 July.
The kit features a two-tone patterned blue shirt, white shorts with royal blue and yellow detailing, and white socks.
For 2021/22, a replica of the kit worn by Everton Women will also be available to buy alongside the men’s version – a Club first.
Evertonians from around the world have played a leading role in the kit’s launch video by lending their creative talents to imitating the shirt’s striking pattern and submitting user generated footage of their creations coming to life.
The video shows the unique dazzle pattern being recreated as a stunning piece of sand art at Bellarine Peninsular in Victoria, Australia, and incorporated into an eye-catching hairstyle at a barber studio in Ireland, as well as showcasing the artistic abilities of a Chinese nail artist, Malaysian carpenter, Greek graphic designer and US-based baker.
Players from Everton's men's and women's first teams, including Seamus Coleman, James Rodriguez, Richarlison, Izzy Christiansen and Danielle Turner, also feature in the video, modelling the strip at Goodison Park.
The use of the dazzle pattern is inspired by the role of the city of Liverpool and its docks in painting naval ships with the inventive and bold livery during the First World War. The brainchild of a British marine artist, the use of contrasting shapes, tones and colours proved highly effective at disguising a vessel's size, speed, distance and direction, confusing the enemy at sea.
To this day, the practice is celebrated in Liverpool through a working Mersey ferry ‘Everybody Razzle Dazzle’, painted to commemorate the dazzle ships in 2014 as part of the city’s First World War centenary activities.
As with the 2021/22 away kit, launched in May, this season's home kit will be environmentally friendly in line with the Club's ‘Everton For Change’ initiative and feature hummel's ECO8 technology. New for this campaign, the implementation of ECO8 means each shirt is manufactured from high-performing polyester produced from up to eight recycled plastic bottles.
