Stoke City fell to their first away defeat in five Championship outings as Sunderland ran out 3-1 winners at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.
Goals either side of half-time from Mason Burstow and Abdoullah Ba gave the hosts a two-goal advantage before Pierre Ekwah sealed the points 20 minutes from time.
Jenson Seelt's own goal gave City late hope of a fightback on an afternoon on which the finishing touch averted Steven Schumacher's side, who created several opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.
