Stoke City were unable to follow up consecutive away victories prior to the international break as the Potters were edged by Oxford United on Saturday afternoon.
Idris El Mizouni's 48th minute strike proved to be the difference at the Kassam Stadium, where the hosts maintained their perfect home record in 24/25.
The Potters sustained pressure in their pursuit of an equaliser throughout the second half, though United stood firm to deny Steven Schumacher's side.
