Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring in the first half, before Nahki Wells doubled City's tally five minutes later.
Birmingham City pulled a goal back from the spot through skipper Troy Deeney in hope of sparking a comeback, however all hopes were quashed by a Mark Sykes double in the second half to all but sealed the three points.
Substitute Reda Khedra pulled a goal back for the Blues with ten minutes left to play but the hosts would go on to see out the game and end a run of eight home games without a win.
