STAN MORTENSEN | BLACKPOOL FC and ENGLAND LEGEND | 100th Birthday Celebration at Bloomfield Road
Wednesday the 26th May would have been Stanley Mortensen's 100th Birthday. Known to everyone as 'Morty' he still remains the only man to ever score a hat trick in an FA Cup final and that hat trick enabled Blackpool to beat Bolton 4-3 in the most famous FA Cup victory in history.
It is remembered as the Matthews final because Stanley Matthews finally got his FA Cup winners medal but everyone in Blackpool will tell you it was the Stan Mortensen final.
Morty will never be forgotten by the people of Blackpool and this was a wonderful tribute event to the man and was organised by Chris Hull the son of Chris Hull the famous Blackpool FC PA announcer.
I was asked if I would like to go down and film the occasion and how could I refuse. Stan Mortensen was my dad's favourite player of all time for Blackpool and Dad this is for you I know you will be up there watching down on this video and I hope I did you and Morty proud.
If you couldn't attend? you won't miss anything as, I have included everything from the speeches at the ceremony to Peter Gillatt's wonderful film which premiered in The Armfield Club after. I have included the entire film I really hope that you enjoy it.
A special mention to Tony Green, Tony Parr and Andy Higgins of the Armfield Club, to Tony Wilkinson and the volunteers that cleaned the statue, to Brett Gerrity, Ben Mansford and for all at Blackpool FC for making this a special night for our special Club.
