The likes of England, Scotland, Italy, and Hungary are the countries that we tend to think of as having shaped the European game, along with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich within the club game.
One nation and one team that rarely gets a mention is the short-lived Saar Protectorate and the former Bundesliga side FC Saarbrucken, whose impact upon the sport, and in general, has largely been forgotten.
So in this short documentary, HITC Sevens takes a look at the German state of Saarland, its impact upon the world's most popular sport, and how without them, we may not have a Champions League final to look forward to later this month.
