Since Justin Fashanu came out being over 30 years ago, not a single male professional footballer has come out whilst playing in either the Football League or the Premier League - and the situation isn't much better elsewhere.
This isn't the case in the women's game, where some of the most talented players and famous faces in the sport came out years ago.
So in this video, HITC Sevens takes a look at why there are still so few - if any - openly gay professional male football players, the general state of homophobia within the game, and who is to blame for LGBT people still not feeling welcome or accepted by the world's most popular sport.
