In 1955 York City reached the FA Cup semi-final for the first time, beating Spurs 3-1 at Bootham Crescent thanks to goals from Norman Wilkinson (2) and Billy Fenton. The Happy Wanderers drew Notts County in the next round, beating the Magpies before losing to Newcastle United in the semi-final.
The FA Cup run remains the best York City performance in the competition to this day.
