Wigan Athletic Community Trust name St Catharine's CE Primary School, School of the Week following the ongoing success of the Premier League Primary Stars programme at the schools.
The Community Trust deliver weekly sessions helping pupils develop their confidence, physical literacy, and teamwork while keeping students physically active. At St Catharine's CE Primary School, the Trust also support teacher CPD and development through the Premier League Primary Stars Programme.
At a visit to the School, Deputy Headteacher Mark Hillam said:
“It's really positive because they [the coaches] involve themselves in the whole School family, so they get to know the teachers, they get to know the children as well.
“It makes a massive difference. The Premier League Primary Stars programme allows those teachers that want that bit more support to have it.
“In a Community like Wigan, we just want the children to support their local team. We want them to support Wigan Athletic. And the team coming into School really promote the club.”
