In January 2023, QPR Community Trust secured funding from the UEFA Women's Euros Legacy Programme, Wembley National Stadium Trust and the Greater London Authority to design and deliver a 12 month project to engage refugee women and girls as a way of improving their mental health, reduce their social isolation and increase their participation in sport and physical activity through football.
The project has been able to tackle isolation and provide a safe space for women of all ages and from a huge range of nationalities to come together and create social connections; many of whom have not played football before.
Approaching two years since the project started, delivery sessions are growing with over 100 women engaged each week and a new younger cohort of girls engaging with QPR for the first time.
