With the expansion of the Champions League, FIFAs proposals to hold a biennial World Cup, and increased protestation from players and managers over fixture congestion, the debate over whether or not footballers play too many matches has never been more fervent.

Declan Rice recently received a fair amount of backlash after he pointed out that he played 68 games last season, with lots of fans feeling as though footballers are very well-paid and have comparatively easy lives.

So in this video, HITC Sevens takes a look at why there are so many fixtures these days, with that number still rising, what the risks are associated with extreme fixture congestion, and whether it is in fans and players best interests for there to be fewer games.
