England missed out on automatically qualifying for the knockout stages of the Euros tonight after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Denmark.
The Three Lions were booed by their supporters after a lackluster showing at the Frankfurt Arena, a display reminiscent of West Ham's struggles. Manager Gareth Southgate's tactics, seemingly borrowed from David Moyes' playbook, left him baffled on how to best utilize his talented attacking players.
England's performance will not strike fear into Europe's elite, with Southgate's selection and the team's underwhelming display sure to be scrutinized before facing Slovenia on Tuesday. Despite the setback, England remains on top of Group C with four points and a strong chance of qualifying for the round of 16.
Captain Harry Kane scored in the 18th minute, but Denmark's Morten Hjulmand equalized with a long-range effort in the 34th minute. The second half saw chances for both sides, but neither could secure a win.
Southgate made several substitutions, bringing on Conor Gallagher, Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, and Ollie Watkins, which added intensity but not enough quality to retake the lead.
From a West Ham perspective, it was a relief to see Jarrod Bowen escape without injury despite a nasty foul and the poor playing surface.
