Comedian Mark Smith is joined by Football365 Editor Sarah Winterburn for this week’s edition of Big Weekend, in association with Paddy Power.
It’s International Week, a week loved, adored and pined for by every football fan. It’s a massive week for the players on the fringes of the England Team, can Jesse Lingard take what’s been an amazing loan move to cement his place in the England side?
Elsewhere, the emergence of John Stones, going from good defender to bad defender to one of the best in Europe this season, may have give Gareth Southgate a headache or two. Can the England boss finally build a team around the Manchester City centre back, or will he put all his trust in Harry Maguire?
He could, of course, change the formation. Something that Sarah thinks is unlikely, but will England’s huge depth in certain positions lead the gaffer to bringing in players in unfamiliar positions, just to give them a spot?
Speaking of players not fitting into his system, what next for Trent Alexander-Arnold with England. He hasn’t been at his best for England according to Mark and Sarah, but will his improving club form prove Gareth Southgate’s “brave” decision to drop him wrong?
And finally, we take a look at Scotland, a country now in a position to poach some of the Premier League’s sharpest front men, and who have a squad full of top-class Premier League players.
So with International week throwing up plenty of big talking points, it looks like a big bloody weekend to us!
