West Ham showed flashes of promise in their 5-1 Carabao Cup loss to Liverpool, but defensive frailties once again proved costly. Despite being in the game at halftime and even looking like the better team at 2-1, the Hammers' recurring defensive issues resurfaced. Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo, part of a £75m defensive partnership, struggled alongside the rest of the backline, with only Fabianski's heroics preventing a worse scoreline.
Danny Ings had a goal disallowed, and Kilman and Summerville missed key chances, leaving West Ham fans frustrated but hopeful. With Edson Álvarez now suspended due to a reckless red card, the pressure on Julen Lopetegui to secure a win against Brentford is immense.
