Following second-placed RB Leipzig’s 0-0 draw at home to Hoffenheim on Friday night, Bayern Munich had the opportunity to extend their lead in the Bundesliga to seven points at Wolfsburg – and that they did, just. In what’s been a tumultuous week for Hansi Flick’s team after their exit in the Champions League at the hands of PSG, they were able to get off to a flying start thanks to Jamal Musiala’s quick feet and finish making it 1-0. It was soon 2-0 when Eric Choupo-Moting capitalized on a howler from Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels, but the home side roared right back immediately via Wout Weghorst’s tidy finish. Their joy was short-lived however, when Musiala grabbed his second goal of the game with a looping header. Wolfsburg made a fight of it in the second half through Maximilian Philipp’s goal, but they were unable to get the equalizer they craved as Bayern held on for a big win.
