Minnesota United goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair saves an early penalty kick against Seattle Sounders striker Raul Ruidiz, but the second half of the MLS season opener for both sides proves to be all Sounders. The reigning Western Conference champions unleash four goals in the final 45 minutes to beat the Loons 4-0 in Seattle. Midfielder Joao Paulo opens the scoring with an opening-day contender for the goal of the year in Major League Soccer, burying a long-range rocket in similar fashion to the strike that earned Columbus Crew star Darlington Nagbe the prize last season. Raul Ruidiaz goes on to score twice before Fredy Montero, the Sounders’ all-time leading goal scorer, produces an impressive strike of his own in his first match for Seattle in nine years.
