Pep Guardiola says he is proud of his players for their effort in Saturday's Community Shield defeat to Liverpool, but conceded there is still work to do to get up to full speed.

A late Mo Salah penalty and a 94th minute Darwin Nunez goal proved the difference in a fiercely contested season curtain raiser at the King Power Stadium.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold had opened the scoring with a curling effort in the first half, before Julian Alvarez’s first City goal levelled the scores deep in the second period.
